The process of revision of the National Curriculum in Lithuania has brought a number of important changes for the teachers of English as a foreign language. The National Curriculum for Foreign (First and Second) Languages is introducing new content which echoes educational tendencies of foreign language teaching in other European countries and beyond. The main source of new content for foreign language teaching and learning is ‘Common European Framework for Languages – Companion Volume’ (Council of Europe 2020). English teachers in Lithuania face the need to familiarise themselves with the new principles implemented in the National Curriculum for the First Foreign Language and get better prepared to introduce the new content into the teaching process. During the seminar, the participants will broaden their knowledge of different organizational patterns of essays, discuss a range of methods for the teaching of writing and their specific strengths. The seminar will focus on different patterns of organisation included in the revised National Curriculum, namely, cause-effect, chronological, comparison-contrast and classification essays. The participants will be provided with basic theoretical background, practical guidance for the teaching of different organisational patterns of the essay and classroom activities that could be used in the teaching process. Authentic students’ essays will be provided for the analysis during the seminar and relevant assessment criteria will be discussed. |
