WORKSHOP
Developing critical thinking as a core value
In today’s language classroom it is not enough to teach grammar or vocabulary; in the era of ‘fake news’, it is essential to encourage students’ critical thinking. Critical thinking is not a fad, it has been known for a long time and is now called one of the 21st century skills. It helps students not only to observe an object or a phenomenon from a different point of view, but also to develop interpersonal skills. This workhop will offer a number of engaging activities which promote critical thinking, such as discussion-based tasks on culture bumps, exploration of description vs interpretation, learning to state preferences etc. The participants will also have an opportunity to share their own experience as language teachers, users and lifelong learners.
