Lentvaris Motiejus Šimelionis GymnasiumPresentation “Integrating TED into ELT” English language teachers always look for new learning resources to make their lessons more interesting and more meaningful. For me – TED is the answer and I would like to invite you to join the global net of TED. TED is a nonprofit organisation devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics – from science to global issues. Recorded videos of TED talks are a perfect tool for teachers to stimulate discussions in class, teach how to make presentations, improve students’ listening skills and encourage active citizenship. All talks have subtitles that can be downloaded for deeper analysis or translation. Lentvaris Motiejus Simelionis gymnasium is a volunteer translator of TED talks. Last year our school joined the international TED-Ed Club which is another possibility offered by TED to help students improve their English language skills. TED-Ed Club is a programme for schools which supports students in discussing, pursuing and presenting their big ideas in the form of short TED-style talks. You can learn more about all these possibilities if you come to my presentation during the LAKMA conference.
