Research Project as a Means of Instilling Values in Learners

This year 9th grade students of Kaunas Jonas Jablonskis High School are working on a research project which is aimed at exploring Kaunas as a city of many faiths. Students research and discover how many different religious groups live and worship in the city, how long they have been here etc. The project method is used for teaching students not only the necessary skills in project management, such as self-management, research and communication, but also instilling in them the values of critical thinking, cooperation and tolerance. We hope that the experience gained by interviewing people of different faiths will transform the students’ awareness of and attitudes towards some religious minorities, increase their appreciation of diversity and cultural multiplicity of Kaunas, and at the same time develop their research and communication skills.
