WORKSHOP

(Re)creating values and meanings through literary texts: blackout poems

We often talk about developing certain values in our students, such as their social and creative skills through composing short stories or poems; however, not every student may write an original work. Blackout poetry is a method which does not require huge efforts but it may be successfully used in the ELT classroom developing students’ creativity, social and emotional intelligences. While creating blackout poems, original texts acquire totally different meanings which reflect students’ feelings and emotions, allowing them to recreate texts, express their thoughts in diverse and original ways. In the workshop participants will find out about the history and techniques of blackout poems, see practical examples and practise their creative/ cooperative skills by making their own blackout poems.
